Power: You need to choose a tractor whose power corresponds to the size of the farm you will be working on. For working on land less than 5 hectares, choose a tractor with a power of 30 to 60 horsepower. For very large farms, a tractor that can be set to 100 hp or more will be needed, with a 200 hp or 300 hp tractor being most appropriate.
Tractor work: A heavy tractor is needed. It must have a long wheelbase, and the front and rear wheels must be sized to create traction capacity. High engine torque is necessary in order to have a strong traction capacity. You should aim for the lowest possible specific consumption to get the best return on investment. It is important to have staged transmissions that are adapted to the terrain you will be working on.
PTO work: The maximum torque provided by the engine needs to be as close as possible to the standard power start speed. For operations at speeds below 2 km/h, the tractor must be equipped with a crawler transmission. Tractors should be equipped with low-pressure tires to prevent ground buildup.
Transport and handling work: Tractors used for this kind of work should have a smooth gearbox and a strong and effective braking system (usually pneumatic) in case an emergency stop is needed. It is also usually a light tractor with good visibility.
